Sign of the times
Paypal disputes
It was just a matter of time before it happened. I had a long conversation with my friends at deep blue apps. I illustrate a lot of their templates. They had a whole avalanche of Paypal disputes. Even my knocking on wood didn’t help and today I had my first dispute on a BlockBuddies bundle. Oddly, this customer has been heavily shopping at deep blue apps as well (and disputing those purchases as well).
You don’t get any information from Paypal as to why the order has been disputed. At first, I thought ok, there is a kid shopping around with grandma’s credit card. I was willing to just let it go and take the hit. After finding out there are a lot more canceled purchases over at deep blue apps, I kind of changed my attitude.
It might be a sign of the times that everything is considered to be free. You are ‘smart’ when you have a way to ‘trick’ someone out of his pay. The main flaw in this logic is the fact that things like this turn me off doing more art and tutorials. Why bother with something that makes me a little bit of pocket money? I am not talking about the fun I have doing it though. Certainly, I would have that as well if I wouldn’t publish them in this blog. I might as well sit back and enjoy the summer, sun, and pool.
Thanks to all who are supporting me and help me keep the faith in humanity. Shame on those who think that it’s ok to rip creators of digital content off just because they can.
I apologize for this ran but I just had to let off some steam.
I had this happen to me a bit over a year ago. It was a $500 dispute – I was the seller, and my buyer wanted money back after sitting on the purchased source code (I'm a programmer) with his team for over 2 months. It was a long process, but eventually PayPal took my side and rejected the customer's request. To be honest, I wasn't expecting that, and I was ready to refund and – just like you – take the hit.
It might take a while, but you shouldn't let this go. The guy knew what he was paying for, and that's going to hurt the validity of his dispute.
Good luck!
Thanks… that's good to hear. I explained the case to paypal with screengrabs of the email sent upon receiving the order. Let's see what happens… it's just an annoying waste of time and doesn't help boost your spirits first thing in the morning… a cup of good coffee made up for it in the end… :)
Don't give up, there are many out who loves your work!
I have just bought your Indiana Bundle .. hope i will get the download link :-)
Good Luck and Br,
Alen
Your site is very good.
Don't let these retard Hillbilly's get you down. You are a terrific artist, and they are just inbred, talentless, no account cowardly charlatans.
Hi again Chris, I'm a developer for Microsoft Flight Simulator, we deal with these all the time. One way I track things is to have track how many times the customer has downloaded the product. Once downloaded – in our Terms of Use, once they download a digital product then there's simply no refund.
Maybe you should look into a simple store solution to help protect yourself.
Cheers
Deano
Thanks, Deano… but the amount of sales really doesn't warrant the effort, money and time required for a store solution. So far there were 5 orders turning bad… it's annoying more than anything else.
Hi again C,
Yes I agree, it can be difficult.
Keep your head up though, just keep in mind not everyone's a good egg on the Inet. But don't let the Bastards spoil it for the rest of us good eggs :D
